Wayne Rooney smashed home a long range free kick in the first half, and D.C. United kept Toronto FC off the scoreboard for 90 minutes, as United won 1-0 for the second time in five days. Rooney’s 10th goal of the season was a free kick from about 35 yards out in the 18th minute, the second free kick goal the striker has scored this season.
The win marked United’s fourth win in a row, and the eighth consecutive game in which the Black-and-Red have picked up points. The last time United failed to pick up any points was back in August, when they lost 2-0 to the Philadelphia Union at Audi Field.
