Virginia women’s soccer advances to College Cup semifinals with 1-0 upset of TCU

As an elite national program, Virginia typically faces high expectations entering the NCAA women’s soccer tournament. This season, though, the Cavaliers were in the unusual position of being unseeded and largely overlooked.

On Sunday in Cary, N.C., they continued an unexpected postseason run by upsetting fourth-seeded Texas Christian, 1-0, and advancing to the College Cup semifinals for the first time since 2014.

Lizzy Sieracki, a senior defender, scored her first goal of the season on a 60th-minute header as the Cavaliers (14-4-2) earned a meeting with No. 1 Florida State (13-0-1) on Thursday in Cary.
