SAN JOSE — Just before halftime of a Concacaf Gold Cup laugher Sunday, Diego Luna smashed a 17-yard shot with the velocity and aim to extend the U.S. national soccer team’s lead against Trinidad and Tobago.
Sporting a tapestry of tattoos and a curly mustache, the stocky prospect has captured Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s heart this year with his hunger and skill in a program lacking both of late. The ball, though, skipped off teammate Patrick Agyemang’s foot and caromed into the net.
