UEFA to hold ‘extraordinary meeting,’ reportedly will move Champions League final from Russia

Amid calls to move this spring’s Champions League final from St. Petersburg in response to Russian aggression in Ukraine, the Union of European Football Associations announced Thursday that its executive committee will meet Friday to evaluate the situation, and the Associated Press and the BBC reported that UEFA officials are set to confirm they will move the game.

“Following the evolution of the situation between Russia and Ukraine, the UEFA president has called an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee for 10:00 CET [Central European time, 4 a.m. Eastern time] on Friday 25 February, in order to evaluate the situation and take all necessary decisions,” UEFA said in a statement.
