England’s Football Association has removed midfielder Phil Foden and forward Mason Greenwood from the country’s national team roster ahead of Tuesday’s Nations League match in Denmark after they violated the team’s coronavirus quarantine guidelines following Saturday’s 1-0 road win over Iceland.
England Manager Gareth Southgate told reporters on Monday that “the two boys have broken the Covid guidelines in terms of our secure bubble” and had been sent home from Iceland without further contact with the rest of the team. He denied an Icelandic media report that said Foden and Greenwood had invited women from outside the team’s bubble back to the team’s hotel after Saturday’s game.
