NCAA soccer area roundup: Virginia and Navy men lose for first time

The D.C. region began the weekend with three undefeated Division I soccer teams and ended it with just one.

The shocker came Friday night in Charlottesville as the top-ranked Virginia men lost to Pittsburgh, 2-0, doubling the number of goals conceded by the Cavaliers (11-1-1) this season. Pitt (7-5-2) capitalized on its only two shots on target.

“Take nothing away, Pitt is a good team and we knew that coming in,” Coach George Gelnovatch said of an opponent that had beaten his team in the ACC tournament last year. “It’s sport: They had two moments in the game and scored both times.
