The Washington Spirit offered plenty of good spells, but paid for their letdowns en route to a 3-1 loss against Portland Thorns FC. Despite Andi Sullivan’s wonderful second half strike, goals from Hayley Raso, Emily Sonnett, and Christine Sinclair handed the Spirit their only multi-goal loss of the season. The result leaves Washington with just one win from their last nine matches.
Washington created the game’s first look, with Tori Huster’s 4th minute cross from deep picking out Sullivan, who came in from deep to attack the service.
