Luck is on D.C. United’s side in season-opening win over Charlotte

D.C. United’s 3-0 victory over Charlotte FC in its MLS opener Saturday was no work of art. Rather, United benefited from an early overturned goal by the expansion side, a fortunate call that led to a penalty kick and two goals that, while earned through pressure, took blessed deflections.

At the start of his second season, with his roster incomplete and his team still finding its stride, Coach Hernán Losada will welcome the result against an opponent making its MLS debut.

Ecuadoran striker Michael Estrada celebrated his own league debut with two goals and his replacement, Ola Kamara, added one a moment after entering as United pulled away before an announced crowd of 16,395 at Audi Field.
