Greenpeace apologizes for paraglider crash landing that injured two at Euro match

Greenpeace apologized Wednesday for an oil protest in which a paraglider’s crash landing injured two men and strewed debris on the pitch before the Euro 2020 game Tuesday between France and Germany in Munich.

Strapped to a yellow chute with “Kick out oil” and “Greenpeace” written on it, the protester planned only to fly over the stadium using a powered glider when, according to Greenpeace spokesman Benjamin Stephan, “the manual throttle control of the paraglider failed.” Players were not affected, although Didier Deschamps, the France coach, ducked out of the way of debris that fell onto the field when the pilot struck a cable and crashed into the stands at Arena Munich.
