Georgetown men’s soccer rallies past Washington and into the College Cup

A similar scene played out three times in the last 19 minutes of Georgetown’s 2-1 victory over Washington in the NCAA men’s soccer quarterfinal Saturday at Shaw Field.

The first and second were the same: Delirious Georgetown extras in long blue stadium jackets sprinting toward the corner to celebrate goals by Jacob Montes and Derek Dodson — goals four minutes apart that overturned the Hoyas’ longest deficit of the season and prevented another bitter dose of elimination on home grounds.

The last sequence did not transpire as suddenly as the others. Instead, it was a steady and gratifying countdown culminating with all the Hoyas spilling onto the weathered green and yellow pitch to celebrate their first trip in seven years to the College Cup, soccer’s version of the Final Four.
