D.C. United will open its new stadium July 14, illuminating a once-forgotten part of the city that, three days later, will bask in the spotlight of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game.
Audi Field, a 20,000-capacity soccer venue, is under construction at Buzzard Point in Southwest D.C., two blocks from Nationals Park, which this spring will celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The Vancouver Whitecaps will be United’s first opponent at the new stadium, with a 7 p.m. kickoff, according to full club schedules released by the league on Thursday afternoon. MLS did not intentionally schedule the grand opening around the time of baseball’s midsummer classic July 17.
