Several D.C. United players had smartphones stolen from the team locker room during a CONCACAF Champions League match in Mexico last week.
After the 2-0 defeat to Queretaro in the first leg of the two-game quarterfinals Tuesday, players returned to a disheveled locker room and began to realize they had been robbed. Later, one player used a search app and discovered his phone was already in Mexico City, some 125 miles away.
“Unfortunately, a handful of phones were stolen from the locker room during our match against Queretaro,” United spokeswoman Lindsay Simpson said Monday. “CONCACAF was made aware of the situation.
