D.C. United might need to find yet another place to play home opener

MLS does not want D.C. United to play its home opener at Maryland SoccerPlex because of facility and security issues, multiple sources told the Insider. No final decision has been reached yet, but if the plan is rejected, United would have to scramble to arrange another location for the March 17 match against the Houston Dynamo.

Audi Field, the club’s 20,000-capacity stadium in Southwest D.C., is on schedule to open July 14 after a 16-month construction timetable. United wanted to play all 17 home games at the new venue, but the league nixed that request and mandated two home dates at alternative locations in the spring.
