D.C. United hired a new coach after a miserable season. Now it needs to find players.

D.C. United’s announcement Wednesday that it had re-signed defender Chris Odoi-Atsem was a reminder of how little the club has done this winter to improve a team that was among the worst in MLS last year.

United’s winter priority was hiring a coach, which, after a two-month search, brought Hernán Losada, an Argentine via the Belgian league, who pledged fresh ideas and a dynamic playing style.

Besides Odoi-Atsem, a part-time starter, United reached new deals with second-string goalkeeper Chris Seitz and defensive midfielder Felipe Martins, who is rehabbing an ACL injury and won’t return until summer.
