D.C. United did not have star striker Christian Benteke for the last 70 minutes of Wednesday’s match against New York City FC, but it did have Luis Barraza for all 90. And on a night when the struggling club generated few chances, the goalkeeper gave a luminous performance.
With Benteke and other attackers injured, Barraza ensured D.C. did not lose, making several outstanding saves against his former club during a 0-0 draw at Audi Field.
“The entire group really worked hard to defend and keep a clean sheet,” Coach Troy Lesesne said. “But you have to say Luis is the person that led us in that area.
