D.C. United conceded substitute Adam Jahn’s equalizer in the 88th minute Saturday, settling for a 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes and remaining winless in MLS.
On a night that San Jose celebrated 20 years since the league’s inaugural match between the same teams, United endured heavy pressure early and late at year-old Avaya Stadium. It survived the initial siege but, after carrying the lead for more than 50 minutes and managing the game well, the duress became too much.
United’s Patrick Nyarko scored his first goal of the season in the 34th minute. In the dying moments, however, San Jose’s Shea Salinas took advantage of Fabian Espindola’s giveaway and supplied Jahn for an angled, one-timer from eight yards to the far side of the net.
