D.C. United can’t warm its supporters’ hearts in 2-0 loss to Chicago Fire at frosty Audi Field

On a bitterly cold Saturday night at Audi Field, the players were gloved and the spectators blanketed. The ball was orange, and the sidelines were laced with small snow piles.

D.C. United’s match against the Chicago Fire looked and felt as though it were played in mid-January, not mid-March. And United’s performance failed to warm the hearts of its supporters, another inefficient display that resulted in a 2-0 defeat and ended its perfect start.

United (2-1-0) conceded goals for the first time and, although it enjoyed a wealth of possession and opportunity in the second half, it came away empty.
