D.C. United has acquired Venezuelan national team midfielder Junior Moreno, the Insider has learned. The club has agreed to pay an undisclosed transfer fee to Zulia, a Venezuelan club that has employed him since June 2015.
Moreno, 24, is a central player with ball-winning and possession skills. He made his senior international debut for La Vinotinto last summer in a friendly against the United States in Sandy, Utah, assisting on a goal in the 1-1 draw. A week later, Moreno scored from 25 yards in a friendly against Ecuador in Boca Raton, Fla. In the fall, he started World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Uruguay, and entered as a sub against Paraguay.
