Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna headline intriguing USMNT roster for start of World Cup qualifiers

The level of intrigue surrounding the announcement of a U.S. men’s national soccer team roster has generally been tempered over the years by predictability and a modest player pool. But as Coach Gregg Berhalter readies a rebuilt program for the start of 2022 World Cup qualifiers next week, bolstered by a pair of championships over archrival Mexico this summer, the anticipation for Thursday’s list bubbled with excitement.

With more than 40 players with legitimate claims, Berhalter named a 26-man group, largely drawn from the summer squads, that will gather for training camp in Nashville ahead of three matches in seven days, starting next Thursday in El Salvador.
