An ineffective attack and an own goal leave D.C. United with a 1-0 loss at New England

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Hernán Losada’s introduction of up-tempo, entertaining soccer to D.C. United will go through fits and starts.

It began with a flourish last weekend, complete with relentless energy, nervy episodes and terrific goals during a stirring home debut. In Losada’s second chapter Saturday, United was clunky and ineffective, sunk by Brendan Hines-Ike’s own goal early in the second half of a 1-0 defeat to the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

Still badly shorthanded, United (1-1-0) failed to replicate the frenetic, high-pressure antics of its season-opening victory and did not make much of an impression against Coach Bruce Arena’s Revolution (1-0-1).
