After a listless start, U.S. rallies to thrash Honduras for first win of World Cup qualifying

Forty-five minutes from another winless performance, one half from sinking to near the bottom of the World Cup qualifying standings, a period from the ghosts of the last campaign hijacking this mission and haunting it into the fall, the U.S. men’s national soccer team on Wednesday revived its outlook for a berth in the 2022 tournament in Qatar with an unforeseen comeback.

The 4-1 away victory over Honduras came after a horrid first half and after star attacker Christian Pulisic left with an ankle injury. It came without four probable starters who didn’t make the trip to San Pedro Sula.
