The Stars and general manager Jim Nill are keeping an open mind for Friday night’s first round of the NHL draft in Vancouver.
Dallas selects 18th after reaching the second-round of the playoffs, and carries only four total picks on the weekend thanks to in-season trades for Mats Zuccarello, Ben Lovejoy and Connor Carrick.
That leaves Nill with a chance to acquire more picks by trading down in the first round. Or it could mean the Stars stay put and aim to hit squarely on their first-round pick (especially with the possibility that they could lose next year’s first-rounder by re-signing Zuccarello).
