What trading Jordie Benn for Greg Pateryn means for Stars; whom Dallas will likely trade next

The Stars defense could be significantly different next season, and general manager Jim Nill took a step in that direction Monday.

Nill traded veteran Jordie Benn to the Montreal Canadiens for Greg Pateryn and a fourth round draft pick in 2017. Benn, 28, led Stars defensemen in blocked shots (113), was second in points (15), and fourth in average time on ice (18:36), so his departure will be noticed. However, it also opens the door for a younger defenseman both now and in the future.

"When you're having the type of season we're having, changes are going to be made," Nill said.
