What offseason surgery on his labrum means for Tyler Seguin and his future with the Dallas Stars

It's not the way Tyler Seguin wanted to start one of the most important offseasons of his career, but it's also not the end of the world.

Seguin on Monday had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, and the recovery time is about four months, Stars general manager Jim Nill said. That's a tough hurdle for Seguin, who is expected to be one of the most integral parts of new coach Ken Hitchcock's system. It means Seguin will concentrate more on recovery than on strength and conditioning for a third straight summer.

But his results in the two previous offseasons say he can do it all pretty well.
