Healthy forwards have been a scarce commodity in Dallas so far this season. But it looks as though the team is one step closer to having their full complement of forwards back on the ice.
The Dallas Stars announced that they have assigned forward Gemel Smith to the Texas Stars of the AHL.
This means that Patrick Sharp is most likely playing against the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow night at the American Airlines Center. The move leaves Dallas with 13 forwards on the roster and 7 defenseman, which means they have a roster spot open. Since they’re in the midst of a homestand, the Stars can easily call someone up to fill that roster space if they need to easily, but could wait to make that move prior to their five game road trip at the end of the month.
