'That message had to get out there': Why Stars GM Jim Nill agrees with the hockey aspect of Jim Lites critique, but not the tone

FRISCO - Stars general manager Jim Nill took his turn on Sunday at bringing the team back together after a tumultuous weekend.

Stars CEO Jim Lites, in a move reminiscent of former New York York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner at his blusteriest, unleashed on Friday a profane negative criticism of the performance this season by highly-paid forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Lites' outburst attracted league-wide attention.

Nill tried the velvet glove approach. Nill said he agreed with the hockey aspect of Lites' critique but thought the tone was overly harsh.

"That message had to get out there,'' Nill said.
