ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Not even two minutes of a 5-on-3 power play could help the Stars in their quest to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Anaheim Ducks not only survived that situation but got a shorthanded goal out of it en route to a 2-0 victory Wednesday night in front of 16,609 at Honda Center.
Their second successive loss dropped the Stars into a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference standings. The six teams competing for five playoff spots remain within three points of each other.
The Stars will have one final chance to earn points on this swing through California when they face the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
