Allen, Texas The South Carolina Stingrays took Game 1 of the ECHL Kelly Cup finals with a 4-3 win over the Allen Americans on Sunday afternoon, in front of nearly 5,000 fans at Allen Event Center.
The Americans scored early in the opening period, when Trevor Ludwig fired one from in deep that deflected in off of South Carolina Goalie Jeff Jakaitis to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. The Stingrays answered with three of their own in the first period, as Andrew Rowe scored his 12th unassisted, and two straight from Wayne Simpson, his 10th and 11th to give the Stingrays a 3-1 lead after the first period.
