As the Stars get healthy, they are returning young players to the AHL. That can be both challenging and helpful. The prospects now have NHL experience, but they also have to adjust to the disappointment of being sent down.
Gemel Smith was returned to the minors this week and scored a goal in his first game back with the Texas Stars. That's an encouraging sign for a player who was off the radar before training camp.
"I've said that Gemel for me was a complete surprise, totally exceeded expectations and really did a nice job for our hockey club," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said.
