Over the past few years, Stars fans would feel a little disrespected at times and start grousing about the NHL or the national media.
Whether it was the Wild saying they didn't want the Stars for the outdoor game in Minnesota, or national broadcasts ignoring Dallas, or awards going to hated rivals, fans voiced their displeasure about how nobody gave this team a fair shake.
And each time the subject was broached, Stars officials had a great answer. "We have to earn that respect, they would say. "It's on us" to change the perspective that was built over the years in bankruptcy and playoff failure.
