The Dallas Stars became the first professional sports franchise to publicly oppose the Texas "bathroom bill" on Wednesday.
"The Dallas Stars stands strongly opposed to any legislation perceived as discriminatory, including proposed bathroom legislation," President Jim Lites said Wednesday. "Dallas welcomes all, and we welcome all."
Now, the NHL - which sportsnet.ca says is the only major North American league to have no current or former players come out as gay - is following the Stars' lead.
"We strongly oppose the bill in its original form," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told Sportsnet in an email Wednesday afternoon.
