The Texas Stars have a complete week off before they have to lace them up in Grand Rapids. Their excellent record, nearly good enough for the division crown, earned them home ice and the right to take the week. Meanwhile, the team has something to celebrate as Matu011bj Blümel captured the team's first-ever Willie Marshall Award as the league's leading goal scorer.
Blümel's 39 goals were already a team record and he came into Saturday's game leading the league by a hat trick of tallies. Alex Steeves and John Leonard both found themselves a trio short in the end with 36 a piece.
