When John Klingberg was speaking to the media on locker cleanout day in April, he was both depressed and optimistic. The third-year Stars defenseman said the reality of a wasted season weighed heavy on the team, but also added that maybe the IIHF World Championships could help ease the pain a little.
Klingberg found a gold lining to the season Sunday as Sweden defeated Canada, 2-1, in a shootout and won the goldmedal game at the World Championships in Cologne, Germany.
It was a good tournament for several Stars players. Klingberg won gold. Valeri Nichushkin was a late entry for Russia and tallied three assists in helping his country win bronze.
