For second time this season, Stars and Jim Montgomery use unorthodox lineup

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The Stars and coach Jim Montgomery dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen for Sunday afternoon's game against the Islanders, marking the second time this season Dallas has done so.

Stars forwards Brett Ritchie (healthy scratch) and Tyler Pitlick (sick) missed the game, while recently called up forward Roope Hintz and defenseman Ben Gleason entered the lineup. Montgomery also used this arrangement against the Kings on Oct. 23.

The arrangement calls for more bench management from Montgomery, mixing and matching his forwards to create different line combinations. When he did so against Los Angeles, Montgomery liked how many forwards he could get into the game and get sizable minutes.
