NEW YORK -- When Kari Lehtonen joined the Stars in 2010, he was not in good shape.

Literally.

The then-26-year-old goalie had missed the first half of the season after back surgery, and assorted groin injuries had dotted his NHL career. He battled weight problems and simply was seen as a question mark when it came to health and fitness. The second overall pick in the 2002 NHL draft was in jeopardy of becoming a bust.

But he went through a grueling offseason with the Stars' training staff before the 2010-11 season and came back with a new body and a new mind-set.
