Brent Regner Signed For Defensive Depth

NHL free agency isn’t just about setting the NHL team up for success. It’s about signing guys to help the organization. That often means signing depth players that can be leaders at the AHL level and provide the NHL team with some injury insurance.

That’s the kind of move Dallas made when they signed 28 year old defenseman Brent Regner today.

Regner has been a career AHLer, with parts of eight seasons played at that level. He’s registered 178 points (31 goals and 147 assists) in 481 AHL games. He should provide the Texas Stars with some leadership on the backend as part of their third pairing.
