The American Hockey League has officially announced this afternoon an expected delay to the start of the 2020-21 season, pushing the target to February 5, 2021. The previously set date, December 4, was fast approaching and unlikely to be met given the various challenges involved in hitting the mark, as detailed here previously.
As before, the February date still requires eight weeks of warning for all teams to begin preparations. That is December 11, when the US is projected to be in the grips of a significant winter surge of COVID cases. Again, holding out hope that there is clarity on that date, but feeling anxiety that there will not be any.
