Playing point guard is in Cooper Flagg’s future, sooner than later

The NBA is getting bigger, particularly at point guard. And the Mavericks are ready to supersize it.

Cooper Flagg will have the ball in his hands early and often in his Mavericks’ career as coach Jason Kidd hopes to get the 6-9 No. 1 draft pick accustomed to leading the offense, particularly in the absence of Kyrie Irving.

The do-it-all rookie had his introductory news conference Friday at the Mavericks’ practice facility and a large crowd of media members and Mavericks’ staffers welcomed the 18-year-old phenom.

One of the first things he was asked was how and where he’ll play on the floor and whether he’s ready to assume the designation of “franchise icon.
