Mavs head into much-needed All-Star break focused on rest, second-half surge

DALLAS — Although the Dallas Mavericks admit that they’ll enter the All-Star break with a sour taste in their mouths following a 121-119 overtime loss at home to Utah on Tuesday night, they also acknowledge that the lengthy layoff comes at just the right time.

Leading by as many as 15 during Tuesday’s contest before eventually falling on Jazz forward Gordon Hayward’s game-winning jumper as time expired in the extra period, the Mavericks (29-26) concluded play before the All-Star break with a bitter defeat. They’ll now have to sit on that loss for nine days before picking up play in Orlando on Oct.
