Mavs do not plan on having Zach Randolph play any games for them

DALLAS – Don’t get too comfortable thinking about the type of impact Zach Randolph will have in the middle for the Dallas Mavericks.

It’s not going to happen.

The Mavs traded the very popular Harrison Barnes to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night for Justin Jackson and Randolph. But since Randolph turns 38 in July, the Mavs, according to president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson, are seeking to buy him out of his contract because they don’t see him being a part of their future.

“We had a chance to have some discussion there and I think at this point just based on where our team is, and we’re really kind of turning the page from a lot of respects and becoming a team of the future, we’re in discussions now about how to handle that situation,” Nelson said.
