Mavericks collapse late, lose out on chance to sweep Spurs, 119-109

SAN ANTONIO – Before the Mavericks made a little piece of history, J.J. Barea summed up the Mavericks’ thinking perfectly in their final meeting of the season with the rival Spurs.

“Anytime the Dallas Mavericks get a chance to beat San Antonio every game in a year, we got to do it,” Barea said. “They’ve been really good for a long time. It’s been a great rivalry. This year, we got the edge . . . we got to take advantage as much as we can.”

Just one small problem. The Spurs refused to cooperate.

A massive meltdown late in the third quarter and throughout the fourth doomed the Mavericks to a 119-109 loss to their rivals Tuesday night at AT&T Center.
