Lady Luck? Unbothered by Mavs' bleak history, CEO Cynthia Marshall is packing faith and her 'trifecta' of charms for NBA draft lottery

Mavericks CEO Cynthia Marshall has been a trailblazer all her life, the latest example looming next Tuesday, when she will represent the Mavericks at the NBA draft lottery in Chicago.

Her uncommonness, though, isn't the fact she is a woman. Or that she is African-American.

Linda Carter, wife of founding owner Don Carter, represented the Mavericks in the 1990 lottery. Mavericks vice president of operations Michael Finley did likewise in 2017 and 2018.

No, what separates Marshall from others who have represented the luckless Mavericks in 14 previous lotteries are her gusto and conviction for the occasion.
