Former Mavericks coach who led team to Western Conference Finals has died

In 1988, head coach John MacLeod led the Dallas Mavericks to their first ever appearance in the NBA’s Western Conference Finals. The team lost to the L.A. Lakers in seven games. MacLeod died recently at the age of 81. Ron Jenkins Fort Worth Star-Telegram

The first coach to lead the Dallas Mavericks on an extended postseason run has died; the son of former Mavs coach John MacLeod confirmed his father’s death on Sunday to the Associated Press.

MacLeod had been fighting Alzheimer’s disease for more than a decade; he was 81.

MacLeod is more known for coaching the Phoenix Suns from 1973 to ‘87.
