With Dirk Nowitzki in line to play at least one more season, his 21st with the Mavericks, here are a few things to keep in mind about his future:
Next season?
Don't expect it to be a whole lot more fun. The game plan was to get Nowitzki back to a 21st season and have the Mavericks be a lot more competitive than they were last season. And by competitive, we mean winning a few more games than 24. But there is no guarantee.
This is a hard-and-slow rebuilding process. What we have to hope for is that Nowitzki can leave his DNA all over the young players who are going to have to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
