Dallas Mavericks keep veteran leader J.J. Barea on a one-year deal

The Dallas Mavericks agreed to a new deal with J.J. Barea on July 1. According to Shams Charania, Barea will sign a one-year veteran minimum contract to stay in Dallas next season. The deal cannot become official until July 6.

Mavs supporters should not be surprised. Barea is a Mavericks icon and fan favorite. With the retirement of Dirk Nowitzki, Barea will be the longest-tenured Mav next season.

Unless Dallas signs Tyson Chandler or Corey Brewer, J.J. will also be on the only Maverick from the 2011 championship team on the current roster.
