Mavs Rumors Mailbag: Luka Doncic & Kristaps Porzingis Averages, Starting Five & Most Improved Player

The Dallas Mavericks have a lot to look forward to next season with the young duo of Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic finally getting a chance to play together. Luka Doncic will be looking to build on an impressive 2019-20 Rookie of the Year season and hopes to make a strong case for the NBA All-Star team. Kristaps Porzingis, who the Dallas Mavs traded for in January, will look to have a bounce-back year after suffering from a torn ACL during his All-Star season with the New York Knicks. Can the young, international duo average over 50 points per game together next year for the Mavs?

One of the biggest questions for the Dallas Mavericks will be who the fifth starter is alongside Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, Delon Wright and Dwight Powell. Jimmy Crowther of All Things Mavs will answer that question in today’s video. The fifth spot will likely be a training camp battle between Justin Jackson, Dorian Finney-Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. Justin Jackson was acquired from the Mavs in the middle of last season from the Sacramento Kings. Dorian Finney-Smith will need to prove that his 3-point jumper is consistent enough for a starting role. Tim Hardaway Jr. is a high-volume scorer but has not proven that he can do it a playoff-caliber team like the Dallas Mavericks hope to be.

The final question NBA Now host Jimmy Crowther answers is who the most improved Maverick will be next season. Jimmy believes five players could be considered for this honor in Dwight Powell, Maxi Kleber, Dorian Finney-Smith, Jalen Brunson and Justin Jackson. Jackson will have his first shot a consistent starting role. Finney-Smith could take a huge step forward in his 3-point percentage. Dwight Powell will be starting alongside the best big man he has ever played with in Kristaps Porzingis. Maxi Kleber will have a large role next year as the primary backup to both Powell and Porzingis. Finally, Jalen Brunson already took a giant leap in the second half of his second year, and if he can consistently play that way all of next year, he could very well be the most improved player on the Mavs.
