Reasons to be skeptical about a meaningful year-two jump for Cowboys defensive tackle Mazi Smith

Related Topics: Dallas Cowboys, Mazi Smith

The Dallas Cowboys made Mazi Smith their first-round pick last year when he was selected 26th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. It was the first time the Cowboys took a defensive tackle this high in the draft since Russell Maryland was selected over 30 years ago as the number one overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft. But it was also the second time in five years that the Cowboys used their top draft resource on a defensive tackle as the team selected Trysten Hill 58th overall in 2019. It’s not a secret the Cowboys have had issues at the position and are trying to find solutions.
