NFL draft preview: How much depth is there at safety, and which guys can boost the Cowboys defense?

Position strength: 6/10

The safety position was viewed as a strength in the 2017 NFL draft class, largely because of the talent at the top with LSU's Jamal Adams (6th overall, New York Jets) and Ohio State's Malik Hooker (15th overall, Indianapolis Colts). That isn't the case with the 2018 crop, which is an average group from top-to-bottom. The early underclassmen declarations gave this year's group a much-needed boost with the additions of Florida State's Derwin James and Alabama's Ronnie Harrison. They are no Adams or Hooker, but they should be the first two safeties drafted.
