ARLINGTON – Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick stopped multiple times to wipe away tears from his eyes and compose himself during his speech Wednesday to accept an award at the club’s annual kickoff luncheon.
Scandrick was being honored as the Cowboys’ 2014 co-defensive MVP along with end Jeremy Mincey as part of the luncheon at AT&T Stadium.
Scandrick was on crutches and less than a week removed from undergoing season-ending surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Scandrick, the Cowboys’ top cornerback the last few seasons, suffered the injury during one of the final practices of training camp last week in Oxnard, Calif.
