Even though he appeared on the team’s first unofficial depth chart of the season, Rico Gathers’ time with the Dallas Cowboys has come to an end. He was officially waived on Monday evening.
The Cowboys drafted Gathers out of Baylor three years ago and ever since then he’s been a project that has never really reached its full potential. His athleticism is well-documented as a former collegiate basketball player, but off-the-field issues combined with the normal trials of football always seemed to stand in his way.
There was thought that Gathers could really evolve a year ago right after Jason Witten retired as more opportunities would obviously be available.
